What’s the load capacity of your Sheffield pallet racking system?

Generalisations are always rather dangerous things, so before we talk in general terms about the load limits of your Sheffield industrial storage system, a few caveats:

There are a large number of variables when it comes to calculating the specific load limits of your pallet racking storage equipment – from basic dimensions to construction and composition – so for an accurate figure on which you can rely, contact us for a survey.

As a general guide though, load limits will depend on whether your Sheffield pallet racking system is standard, medium or heavy duty.

There are several factors that can help you determine that, including:

  • Frame construction

The uprights of your Sheffield pallet racking system may by marked with an S, M or H, indicating whether they are standard, medium or heavy duty. Upright composition alone, however, is not enough to determine whether the entire racking system is heavy duty.
  • Beam construction

Beams (that is, the horizontal bracing pieces across each bay section) can use an open or box construction. A box construction indicates heavier duty capabilities.
  • Height between beams

The space between each horizontal beam can influence the total load within the bay. The more beams, the greater the likelihood of a heavier load capacity.
  • Beam face and depth

Beam depth is usually 50mm, but the front face of the beam can be as much as three times that amount. The greater the total surface area of the beam, the more load it will likely support.

> Does your industrial racking need checking?

With a clearer idea of whether your Sheffield warehouse storage system is standard, medium or heavy duty, the following limits would be typical:

  • Standard: 9,000kg / 9 tonnes
  • Medium: 15,000kg / 15 tonnes
  • Heavy: 20,000kg / 20 tonnes

As a general guide to load limits per level within the bay, divide the above figures by 5, but as with all the information here, specifics depend on overall bay dimensions and construction, and you should get an accurate assessment rather than relying on general assumptions.
